Attention Californians: New Shop

storeshotWe are so, so pleased to announce that Rare Device in San Francisco will be carry Pigeon Toe Ceramics in a few short weeks. We’ve made about half their order already and the pieces are very excited to hop into the kiln and travel down to sunny California, where they hope to grace the homes of tasteful people everywhere. They will be both online (how I shop up in here in Portland) and in-store. Their carefully curated shop is a go-to link whenever I’m looking for gifts.

Woohoo!

We took advantage of the long weekend to make some much-needed improvements to the shopping system here on our site. You better go check out how awesomely superior it is…And yes, I know it doesn’t LOOK that different, but trust me friends, it is.

To celebrate our new online serenity (and as a sort of apology in advance in case you run into any kinks in the new system), we’re offering free shipping until the first day of summer (June 21) – use promo code ONTHEBRINK at checkout.

In the Studio with Pigeon Toe

3547935167_31ae34d850_oHave you ever wondered about the process of making a Pigeon Toe piece? Photographer Alicia Carrier spent time in our studio last week documenting a typical production session in our studio for your enjoyment. Each piece from start to finish takes about 3 weeks – see multiple stages in our new image gallery, from throwing, trimming, firing, glazing, and firing again! Thanks to Heart Handmade for debuting this project on their website today. We hope you enjoy this little peek into our process, and we hope to add even more images in the future, so keep checking back!

Exciting new project + New retailer

web421Oh boy, we had the fabulous Alicia Carrier to our studio yesterday to shoot photos for a project I’ve been thinking about for a few weeks now. We’re a week or so away from publishing it but I will share a preview photo {above}.

We also have a new store carrying Pigeon Toe! One of my favorite Portland shops, Life and Limb, will have our tripod pots by the beginning of June for sweet succulents to make their homes in. You may recognize the shop, they were featured in the last issue of ReadyMade. Go visit them and congrats to Molly on her upcoming nuptials, mere weeks away.

Tuesday Inspiration: Heidi Sowa

heidiMy lovely, lovely studio assistant (lifesaver and all around porcelain warrior) Heidi Sowa launched her website over the weekend. It was such a pleasure to look through her body of work and see her other non-pottery projects as well (well hello there awesome puppet costumes). I’m especially in love with the dishware at left in the soft blue-green (the very dishware that spurred me to inquire, “Do you want a job?”) that she throws and morphs on the wheel. Everything has a very natural, organic quality while still being distinctly modern. It’s something about the contrast of smooth, almost utilitarian shapes adorned with coils and soft folds that is oh so nice.  She will be displaying her wares on the waterfront at the Rose Festival on May 25 — be sure to go say hello and perhaps buy a mug or vessel while you’re there.

The airplants have arrived + new store

dsc_0042…and we couldn’t be happier, except they’ve completely taken over our office. So, help us make room to work again – head over to our Etsy shop to buy a few of these easy-to-care-for lovelies with or without a perfect porcelain vessel to hold it. We love the bright colors and sharp shapes contrasted with our pieces.

Seriously, it’s like an alien invasion (uh, except plants) up in here, check it out: whoa! And that’s not even all of them….

Also, we are happy happy to say that Artemesia on SE 28th and Ankeny in Portland now carries Pigeon Toe. We dropped off the first pieces today with the rest to follow in a week or so. Stop by and see all the gorgeous plants, terrariums, and found objects inside this amazing shop.

Refresh + New Store

inkHi Lovelies…We’ve moved a few things around here on the website and refreshed the “collections” page for a hopefully better viewing experience. Nothing drastic, mind you. We are also so pleased to share that one of our favorite local stores, Ink and Peat, will be carrying Pigeon Toe in their shop starting mid-month, just as soon as we get those darn legs attached to the tripod pots and off into the kiln! Please do stop by Pam’s lovely store later this May if you’re in the Northern Portland area — it is a art and design lover’s dream come true (not to mention the flowers, OH the flowers….) and say hello to my little pots.

Tripod Pot Army

tripod_armyHappy May! A kiln load of new work came out of the glaze fire yesterday – I had fun in my studio looking at all these spring colors and creating a Pigeon Toe army of pots in the blazing sunshine. The tripod pot is available here. Airplants to go with my ceramics coming soon to the shop. Yeah!

We’d also like to welcome Ink and Peat into the Pigeon Toe fold. A lovely home and garden shop here in Portland, Ink and Peat will be carrying these very tripod pots in sunny colors in a few weeks. We are very excited to be a part of their shop, and do go visit if you’re in the area and looking for incredible flower arrangements or unusual home decor.
